We participated in Discover Primary Science and achieved our First Award of Excellence in Maths and Science in 2009-2010.
We achieved our second plaque of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Excellence in June 2015.
The project involved submitting a log with activities from Discover Primary Science curriculum, a visit to a science centre, attending and hosting a science event and showing that maths, technology and engineering were integrated with science throughout the project.
The whole school participated in the project and overall it was a wonderful success.
We took part in a Science of Life fair in the Parkway Hotel in Dunmanway in June. The children spent a few weeks studying DNA and then presented their projects to Professor John Atkins, TD Micheal McCarthy and many teachers and pupils. We were also given the opportunity to explore digestion with the APC inflatable digestion tract and light pollution with the Blackrock Observatory. We received a plaque for the school, certificates and sweets. A great day was had by all.
We participated in a maths workshop run by the Lifetime Lab in Cork. Lots of discoveries were made in maths and the children had great fun. Lots more pictures from the day can be seen here
As part of Engineer week we took part in the Knex Challenge. For lots more pictures of our great designs click here
