He who controls the past, commands the future. He who commands the future, conquers the past.” - George Orwel
As part of the History Curriculum, we enjoy learning about events that happened in the past. We regularly undertake collaborative student-led projects to help us make sense of our past.
Ms Walsh's class held an Artefact Day in the School Hall. In our History books, we looked at how things have changed over time. We researched at home if our parents/grandparents had any old objects and we found out about them. Then we the old objects from home to school and we talked about them and told our class the story behind them. We each wrote up a poster about our artefact. To complete the project we invited our parents, grandparents and the other classes in the school to come see our display in the school hall. It was a very enjoyable and successful afternoon, and everybody learnt how important it is to value and cherish our own family heirlooms.
It was with great excitement that the children from 4th, 5th and 6th class, accompanied by their proud teachers and parents travelled up to the Silver Springs Hotel Cork for the Discover Cork History Project awards ceremony. Fourth Class won first prize in Co. Cork in their class category with their project entitled Archaeology in our Area. They were given an opportunity to speak on their project to the large attendance present and also to display their model. They recieved their prize and certificate from Cllr Kieran McCarthy, the co-ordinator of the heritage project.
